The basics

Wigs for Chemo Patients explained

With many chemotherapy medicines, hair starts to fall about two to three weeks after the first session. Choosing a wig before that happens is easier: we can see your natural colour, length and parting, and match them closely.

During treatment the scalp is often dry and tender, so these wigs are made differently from fashion wigs. The cap is soft and seamless, the hair is light, and a thin cotton or bamboo liner can be worn underneath.

Your head measures slightly smaller once the hair has gone, so we use adjustable caps and re-fit the wig for you during treatment at no pressure. If you would rather come after hair loss has started, that is completely fine too.

Who it is for

  • Before treatment starts

We match your own colour and style while we can still see them.

  • During treatment

A soft cap and liner for a scalp that feels sore or dry.

  • After treatment

Cover for the months while your own hair grows back.

  • Choosing for a family member

Come together, or come first to see the options on their behalf.

Options

The process

What happens on the day

There is no fixed timetable. Most people come once before treatment and once or twice more for adjustments.

  1. 1

    A quiet first conversation

    As long as you need

In a private room, with a family member if you wish. No measuring until you are ready.

  2. 2

    Matching your own hair

    20 min

We note your colour, length and parting, and take a photo for reference if you agree.

  3. 3

    Choosing the cap

    20 min

You feel the caps against your skin and pick the one that is most comfortable.

  4. 4

    Fitting and shaping

    30 min

The wig is adjusted and trimmed so it looks like your usual style.

  5. 5

    Re-fitting during treatment

    Short visits

The cap is tightened as your hair falls, and loosened again when it grows back.

Aftercare and maintenance

Scalp care
Wash the scalp with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and keep it moisturised. Tell your care team about any soreness or rash.
Liner
Wear a clean cotton or bamboo liner under the wig, and change it daily.
Washing the wig
About every 7 to 10 wears, in cool water with a gentle shampoo. Let it dry on a stand.
Rest
Give your scalp a break each day. A soft cap is enough at home and at night.
When your hair returns
New hair is fragile. Avoid tight clips, heat and colour until your doctor says it is fine.

I was nervous before my first visit, but the team explained everything patiently. The patch matches my own hair so well that even my colleagues could not tell. Servicing every month is quick and the staff is always polite.

Best decision I made this year. Walked in bald and walked out with a full head of hair the same day. Private room, clean setup and honest pricing. Highly recommended for anyone thinking about a hair patch.

Got extensions for my wedding functions and they blended perfectly with my natural hair. The stylist took time to match the colour and length. Very happy with the result.

FAQ

Wigs for Chemo Patients: common questions

Still unsure? Message us on WhatsApp and we will answer honestly.

Ask on WhatsApp

When should I choose a wig?

Ideally before treatment starts, or soon after the first session, while we can still match your own colour and style. Hair loss often begins two to three weeks after the first chemotherapy session. If it has already started, you are still very welcome.

Will a wig hurt a sore scalp?

These caps are soft and seamless, and a thin liner goes between the cap and your skin. If anything rubs, tell us and we will adjust it or suggest a softer cap.

Should I cut my hair short first?

Some people find it less upsetting to cut their hair short before it falls. It also makes the wig sit better. It is entirely your choice, and we can do it privately for you.

Will the wig still fit after my hair has gone?

Your head measures a little smaller without hair. The caps are adjustable, and re-fitting visits are included.

How long will I need to wear it?

Hair usually starts to return a few weeks after treatment ends, and many people stop wearing a wig about a year later. Some stop sooner and some later.

Can I come alone, or bring someone?

Either. Many people bring a family member or a friend. The room is private.

Do I have to decide on the day?

No. You can see the options, take the details home and come back when you are ready.
